Lidia Paladino is an Argentine artist known for engraving and drawing, with a particular focus on textile drawing. Her artistic journey began with a deep exploration of textile drawing, but she later decided to resume her career by updating her engraving techniques. This decision marked the beginning of a long and satisfying path that has seen her receive different prizes, including the First Municipal Prize for Engraving in 2003.
Paladino’s work often explores themes of otherworldliness and the inapprehensible. One of her pieces, “From the series Other Worlds: Inapprehensible,” is a diptych composed of two etching matrices. This work, created in 2000, showcases Paladino’s skill in creating a dark atmosphere and a sense of dynamism within a sea of darkness. The observer is drawn into a world that is almost violent, yet there is a certain strength and beauty in the chaos.
In addition to her work in engraving, Paladino has also experimented with handmade paper and reliefs using discarded materials. These experiences have added depth and texture to her artistic practice, allowing her to explore new techniques and materials. Paladino invites the viewer to engage with her pieces on a deeper level, encouraging them to explore the themes and emotions that she incorporates into her work.
